At CURA, we believe healthcare is a right, not a privilege. We are students passionate about ensuring that communities are seen, supported, and never left behind.
Meet Our Board
Claire Sim
Founder
Claire is a current senior at the Bergen County Academies in New Jersey, where she is studying in the Academy for Medical Science Technology. While researching public policy for debate, she was particularly struck by the apparent disparities in access to healthcare, and began seeing numbers come to life while volunteering in healthcare — where some of the most impactful moments for her were in the waiting room or behind closed doors. At the same time, she witnessed the problem with dense policy that creates these very stories through her immigrant parents’ struggles and those of families around her. She was inspired to start CURA with the hopes of applying her passion for science, medicine, policy, and service to impact other communities. She firmly believes in the power of education, access, and understanding, and has made it a goal to ensure CURA’s reach is authentic and approachable. Her free time is spent running outdoors with friends, curating Spotify playlists, and collecting pink items!
Clara Pietri-Muñoz
Director of Resources
Clara, a senior at Bergen County Academies in New Jersey, is interested in improving healthcare access in disadvantaged communities. A student in her school’s Medical Science Technology program, she earned a Mental Health First Aid certification that made her particularly interested in how accessible mental health resources are worldwide. As she personally witnessed the struggles of her loved ones, as well as the challenges they faced when seeking mental care, she became concerned for how more rural populations might access the same resources. She is eager to help as many communities as possible reach the same standard of care as even the most medically privileged of regions. Outside of school, Clara enjoys exploring new places through travel and staying active at the gym.
Amna Parvez
Director of Outreach
Amna is a senior at Bergen County Academies in New Jersey, where she’s studying in the Academy for Medical Science Technology. Volunteering at Valley Hospital and participating in CPR/first aid training, including BLS certification, sparked her interest in how care is delivered. Through visits to family in Pakistan, Amna first handedly witnessed the challenges faced by rural communities with limited access to medical care. She’s committed to improving healthcare access through education, community outreach, and efforts that support underserved populations. In her free time, Amna likes to go to the gym with her sister and hang around with family.
